Exeter's shoegaze / bedroom pop trio announce their debut full band release! Out 11th Oct on Specialist Subject Records!
Pre-Order available now!
Soot Sprite's last recording 'Comfort In Concrete' (2018) was a home recorded EP that left a lot of us wanting more of songwriter Elise Cook's personal and powerful songwriting. The wait is over! Having joined with Ross Becker (bass) & Matthew Tiller (drums), Soot Sprite is now fuller, deeper and just as vulnerable. We are so excited to be involved in the release of 'Sharp Tongue'!
This EP is comprised of five songs that confront issue of self-esteem, insecurity and difficult social dynamics. "When going through times of heightened anxiety," Cook says, "it's sometimes difficult to recognise that you're your own worst enemy, and I wrote this through feelings of urgency to write and constantly work on music in one way or another whilst comparing myself to my peers and what felt like the impossibly fast world moving around me.
For The Rabbits premiered the first single 'Bleed', "One of the most impressive new tracks we’ve heard all year, wherever the world has been hiding Soot Sprite, they’re not going to stay out of site for long."
You can pre-order 'Sharp Tongue' now, alone or bundled with a tote, for delivery ahead of the 11th October release date. As with all our pre-orders this year, you'll receive free shipping globally! Thanks for your support!

We're well pleased to announce our latest release, Hovvdy from Austin, Texas! Hovvdy is a collaboration between drummers / bedroom recording musicians Charlie Martin & Will Tayler. Fuzzy, compelling and lovely, their songwriting styles merge seamlessly into a singular worn-in sound.

Brilliant, Brighton, indie pop collective reveal third album with new video for single 'Wide Sea'! 1st November release date, pre-order available now!
Garden Centre are a band that encompass the childish wonder of our every day. On their self titled debut they deconstructed the thoughts and feelings of a friendship group forged in the fires of forgotten spaces. In 2018's followup 'Monster Energy' they tackled energy drink consumption and semi rural exploration. Now, on their new album ‘A Moon For Digging’, they’ve reaffirmed their ability to look at the world a little differently. Conveying simple, starry-eyed narratives with a tentative sense of optimism, Garden Centre’s sweet, playground melodies will urge you to look up from your phone and notice the little things; the hidden things.
The record is available to pre-order now with more info HERE! Like with all of our releases this year, pre-orders get free shipping!
This is a co-release with the fine folks at Kanine Records in New York, if you're outside Europe please pick it up from them.
'Mood Swings & Roundabouts' explores some of life's enduring questions through the eyes of a trout.
Don't Worry have a run of UK dates later this August and have given us a lovely DIY music video in anticipation of these summer shows. 'Mood Swings & Roundabouts' is off of their anthemic LP 'Who Cares Anyway?' (2018, Specialist Subject Records). Don't Worry are loved for their distinctly British sensibility, humor and the deft way they navigate anxiety and uncertainty in their lyrics while writing fantastic indie punk bangers.
"Mood Swings & Roundabouts is a song about being aware of the fact you’re getting older, and being concerned about whether or not you’ve taken the right paths and made the right choices in life. Sometimes it can feel like there’s a lot of pressure on people to do certain things, earn certain amounts of money, things like that, but, ultimately, life has to be about getting by and trying to be as happy as you possibly can in your given circumstances. I guess the song is also about the old chestnut of having a love hate relationship with the town you grew up in." Ronan Kehoe

It's coming up to two years since we opened our record shop on the first floor of the Exchange. We've worked with bands from Bristol, across the UK and around the world and put out nearly 20 releases since Summer 2017. We've been open seven days a week (most weeks) from 12-6 everyday and we love our regulars so much. Our Christmas parties have been legendary (who could forget the Jesus and His Judgemental Father/Fleetwood Mac cover set?!) and we've loved putting on loads of big gigs and intimate in-stores with great bands. This All Dayer will cap off the launch week for the new Exchange basement venue. We're happy here.

Midway through their tour, these dreamy punks gave us an update from the road. They play Manchester tonight!
Specialist Subject Records: Do you have any hot takes? Kathryn: Every day on tour should have a mandatory nap built in. Carly: Slingy D is best described as “shit band no songs.” George: Sure is a hot one huh?!
SPS: How’s tour so far? K: Wonderful. C: Tour has been incredible so far. Fresh & Andrew & Kay have been taking the best care of us! G: So much fun!
SPS: Have you played with any cool bands that you'd never heard of before? C: Every support band has been the best: Søft, Solution Hours & Rosehip Teahouse G: Søft were so great. K: Søft.
SPS: How was 2000 Trees? G: It was the best. I got to meet Andy Williams from Every Time I Die and watch them play Hot Damn, hang out with my friends in Free Throw, pretend to be a roadie, rep a rose wine company and eat Beckies Bajhis!
SPS: What’s been the best food on tour? C: The best tour food has been all of the homemade food from Andrew & Kay!!! Especially the Mac & Cheese. K: Andrew’s homemade vegan pancakes, and the BBQ that we had last night. G: Beer.
SPS: Where are you excited about playing this week? K: I’m excited for Manchester, The Scotland shows and Leeds! C: We are excited to go back to Leeds, the scene of Toms accident! Also stoked to go back to JT Soar as a full band since I had to play solo due to Toms accident. G: Scotland is always fun.
SPS: What are you listening to in the van? G: Tom Petty! C: Mostly Tom Petty and the “Fresh Podcast” aka Jack/Myles/Kathryn chatting vividly in the back seat. K: Each other!
SPS: Who’s doing the most farts? K: It’s usually Myles but Carly is the champion thus far. G: Carly. C: Me.
Catch these beautiful freaks at any of these shows over the next week:
"Really love how this zine highlights so many brilliant women within rock, pop and punk in a really accessible way- it even gives you pointers for which songs to check out if they're unfamiliar to you. A really great celebration of bands who paved the way like Patti Smith & Blondie, changed the rules (Bikini Kill, X-Ray Spex) or like Paramore & Against Me- are influencing a new generation of angst-filled grrrls."
